The European Invasion

So you’ve been to one festival, Graspop in Belgium, from June 24th – 28th and you’re going to another festival, Metalcamp in Slovenia, from July 05th – 11th.

You’ve got a couple of options;

  1. You could get the Eurostar home from Belgium on Monday the 28th of June and then fly out to Slovenia on Sunday the 04th
  2. You could spend a week travelling from Belgium to Slovenia

There’s probably other options, but these are the obvious ones in my mind.

Coming home and then flying out was logical at first but boring, stressful and costly. Flights to Slovenia seem pricey and booking last minute cheap tickets isn’t a risk we were willing to take if we didn’t get any.

So travelling through Europe for a week it is!

This summer, my good friend Dan and I are invading Europe!

Our objectives:

  • Drink as much beer as possible
  • Eat as much local food as possible
  • Rock out… as much as possible!

Leg 1 starts on Wednesday 23rd of June, when we’ll be heading out to Antwerp in Belgium with several other friends for the beginning of the trip. Thursday we’ll be heading to Dessel in north Belgium for Graspop Metal Meeting until Monday morning.

Monday we head back to Antwerp for a recovery night at Den Heksenketel and for some delicious beers and veal. Maybe a short walk around Antwerp too if it’s not too hot, but considering previous years have been sweltering I’m not holding out much hope for that!

Tuesday Dan and I say goodbye to the rest of the crue and head on the first of many uncharted trips!

First we will be heading to Frankfurt for a night, then onto Prague for 2 nights, then to Munich for 2 nights, then to Salzburg for an afternoon and heading onto Ljubljana for a night before the final part of Leg 2 of the invasion, heading to Tolmin for Metalcamp!!!

Metalcamp – possibly the best festival idea of all time… 6 days of Beach, Forest, River, Beer, Music and Striptease.

After that it’ll be a night in Milan, a night in Gruyere, a night in Strasbourg and then back to Belgium for a trip to the oude market in Leuven.. over 45 bars and restaurants in one market area?! Awesome!

THE 18TH OF JULY!!!

So, if you’ve been paying attention to my site you’ll know that I’m in a KISS tribute band! If that comes as a shock to you, check out the music page for information.

We have the date for our gig, and that date is SATURDAY JULY 18TH.
We have a venue for our gig, it’s Leo’s (The Red Lion) in Gravesend.

If you want to see me dressed in lycra, wearing makeup, and making a complete fool of myself on stage you’ll get in contact to find out more!
It’s going to be one hell of a night :D

Watch this space for publicity photos :p

The Festival Rounds!!!

So, haven’t had an update in quite a while – will get round to a proper one at some point. With photos (ooh la la).

Most of my holiday this year will be taken up by travelling to festivals, and many of them. This update has been inspired by the delivery of my Bloodstock ticket! HURRAH! That’s one festival in the bag.

What’s the calendar looking like then…

12,13,14 June – Download Festival, Donington Park, Derby, UK - Still unsure of this one, only really FNM, ZZ Top and Limp Bizkit pulling me to this so far.

26,27,28 June – Graspop Metal Meeting, De Boertang, Dessel, BELGIUM – Definitely a go this one, ticket being ordered (when Sentinel get around to replying to me), have to sort out travel and accomodation for before and after the festival first though, a few nights at De Heksenketel is a must! More folk music and funky beer.

1,2 August – Sonisphere Festival, Knebworth, Hertfordshire, UK – This is looking more like a definite yes by each announcement and a chance to see NIN can surely not be turned down, along with Alice in Chains and The Sword!

14,15,16 August – Bloodstock Open Air, Catton Hall, Derby, UK – As said above, just had my ticket delivered for this one, gotta keep it safe till august, damn that’s gonna be tricky!

Unknown time in November – Damnation Festival, Leeds University, UK – Whenever it is, I’ll be there. It’s freakin’ freezing in leeds, but well worth it for an awesome evening of brutality.

Why are all the festivals in June and August?! Why couldn’t there be a few good ones in July to go to, like maybe stick Graspop a couple of weeks later, or Sonisphere a couple of weeks earlier – would make holiday from work easier and also make the festival goodness last a lot longer.

That reminds me, I have to buy a new tent – mine kinda got destroyed last year at GMM, somebody managed to chuck pasta sauce all over it, and I couldn’t be arsed to wash it off so just smashed it up.

Luckily I’m living with a couple of cool people now so have fewer bills to worry about, and awesome company most of the time so can afford all of these trips. Anyway, that’s an update for another time, with pictures.
